Lords (9) def. Nobles (7.5)

No one saw the photo finish of 2019 coming. It was impossible to predict how what started as a rout would end up being one of the closest G-Cups in all eight years of history. It was another win for the Lords, bringing their total to six wins in the total eight G-Cups contested.

2019 was the first year the G-cup was comprised of 16 traveling golfers coming from California, Chicagoland, Texas, and as far as Maryland and New York.

Score at the end of Day 1: Lords 4.5 - Nobles 0

Local favorite Solider Hollow's Gold Course was the scene of the first-ever G-Cup Stableford matches. With each team receiving handicaps (not just one side) in order to have all matches have comparable and relevant scores, the results were nothing short of incredible.

Three of the four total matches were decided by three points or less! With the introduction of Stableford Scramble, each match would effectively be guaranteed to go the full eighteen holes and they sure did!

As an added bonus an extra half point was awarded to the team (Lords vs. Nobles) that had the highest point total in the Stableford. The idea was that this would make each and every point matter. Winning all four matches on the first day meant the Lords took the extra half point and established a lead they would never let go of.

Highlights from the day include an "almost" hole in one from Chip Cavanaugh using rented clubs and a pink golf ball (pictured), Mark Fung pulling a clothes hanger from his golf bag to use it as a training aid mid-round (very sadly not pictured), and Max's frequent use of 300-yard drives that had apex points of 10 feet in the air - colloquially known as "d*@k missiles." Turns out those missiles were quietly putting incredible stress on the driver shaft that would matter just the next day.

Score at the end of Day 2: Lords 8 - Nobles 0.5

The Nobles needed to turn the tables on the second day to prevent the cup from getting out of reach. Starting the day with a 4.5-point deficit they were determined to make up ground.

Matches were close throughout most of the day with both sides leading at times. Both Fee & Davy as well as Solomon and Van Gundy were down a hole at the turn. For both of those matches the par 3 16th proved a pivotal hole with both Lords teams making par on the 150-yard one-club tester to take the lead. For Fee and Davy a 30-foot downhill put on 17 for birdie on 17 sealed the Lords fate and put another point on the board for the Lords.

It's possible there could have been another outcome in the match involving Max, but bragging about how his driver shaft should have broken years ago turns out to be bad juju on a golf course. The shaft snapped 3 holes later eliminating Max's ability to hit the patented "d*@k missiles."

Mark and Paul Fung put their undefeated partnership streak on the line, taking on Brannon and Victor who were determined to take them the full 18 holes. The match saw multiple lead changes and bridies and bogies on both sides but on the 18th green with 11 golfers watching intently, Mark Fung picked the perfect line on a right to left 14-footer to halve the point, keeping the Fabulous Fung's streak alive.

For the second year in a row we saw a rendition of "Bonus Golf" involving 16 golfers playing a single hole at a time. The crew played nine holes of golf teeing off three at a time, barefoot, and a few pops deep. No drone footage this year, but Francis Ford Copola would have agreed that 8 carts racing down the mountain at full clip cutting across holes needed "Ride of the Valkryies" playing over the montage. Thankfully unlike 2017 no carts were hurt or damaged during the filming of this stunt.

The story of the third day really begins with a negotiation. Sipping on cocktails at Fletcher's waiting for a table, Chris Derr and the Nobles cooked up the beginnings of a bargain that would have massive implications on the outcome of the cup.

With the Nobles needing to win every singles match the next day to have a chance to win the cup they brokered to be able to set the matchups and the order. This seemed like an innocuous ask and one the overly confident Lords easily agreed to. Little did they know the Nobles had been carefully crafting matchups that would give them a chance of the unthinkable.

Of the 8 matches played on Saturday, the Nobles handily won three of them, winning by more than 5+ holes. In another two matches, they won 3 & 2. Only two matches were truly close - Evan vs. Chip and Connor vs. Levy.

Evan struck first, winning the 145-yard par 3 2nd with a bogey to Chip's double. Chip struck back immediately winning the next two holes and cementing his lead. He held the lead for the next seven holes until a bogey on 11 brought the match back to all square. Chip took the lead again on 14, but lost it again on 15. Finally on the 17th, Chip took a 1Up lead he would hold through 18 to lock up the Nobles 7th win on the day.

Fee and Levy also threw back-and-forth punches early with Connor winning the first two holes and Levy promptly winning 3 and 4 to bring things back to square. Connor got hot over the next few holes though shooting a two-over front nine to hold a four-hole lead at the turn. By 14 Levy had cut the lead to two and the momentum was swinging hard back towards the Nobles. Levy had birdied the par-3 thirteenth and would go on to birdie the par-five 16th to cut the lead to one on the 18th tee. It wasn't the strongest finish he could have had, but Connor was able to hold on with a par to complete the 1 Up win and retain the cup for the Lords.

With the afternoon off, a number of folks snuck in an extra bonus nine on the world's largest tricked-out minigolf course known as the Canyons Golf Course. Colin made sure everyone knew he was feeling his inner Diva and was committed to being Happy, Sexy, and Strong - whether he knew the was broadcasting that message or not.

The final evening's activities involved not one but two bridal parties and trips to a late-night dance club only open to true locals. An unnamed member of the G-cup was convinced he'd met the love of his life. Stay tuned for future updates to hear how that relationship turns out!
