About

What is the G-Cup?

The Gentleman's Cup is an annual golf competition pitting two teams — the Lords and the Nobles — against each other over three days of match play. Inspired by the Ryder Cup format, the G-Cup brings together friends from across the country for a long weekend of competitive golf, camaraderie, and tradition.

Founded in 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia, the tournament has grown from a casual weekend among friends to a full-fledged event with custom logos, team merchandise, scorecards, and a live scoring app.

Tournament Format

Each G-Cup spans three days with a different match format each day:

Day 1 — Team Scramble

Two-man scramble format. Both players hit, pick the best ball, and both play from that spot. Fast-paced and great for building team chemistry.

Day 2 — Mixed Games

Varies by year — Chapman (best ball after switching drives), alternate shot, shamble, or other team formats. Often the most strategically interesting day.

Day 3 — Singles

Individual match play. Every player goes head-to-head. The most points are on the line and the drama peaks here.

Scoring

Each match is worth one point. A tie splits the point (0.5 each). The team with the most points after all three days wins the Cup. Match play is typically decided by who is ahead after 18 holes (or by the margin stated, e.g., "3&2" means 3 holes up with 2 to play).

Team Selection

Teams are balanced by handicap to keep competition fair. The captain of each team manages pairings and strategy for the team formats. New players are drafted to maintain competitive balance across Lords and Nobles.
